Eva Hesse was one of the leading artists of the 20th century. Her work speaks to 1960s minimalism with intensity, aesthetic and physicality. The book includes photocopies of highly innovative works, involving bold colorful collage pieces to abstract line drawings and illustrations of unannounced sculptures. She was a creative pioneer in initiating sculptural materials into drawing and painting which continues to influence artmaking today.

This monumental publication holds an entire collection of drawings by the German artist Eva Hesse that is currently held in the collection of the Allen Memorial Art Museum. The AMAM was the first museum to purchase a sculpture by Hesse, in 1970. In appreciation for its acceptance of Hesse's work, and following the artist's untimely death, her sister (Helen Hesse Charash) donated the artist's notebooks, diaries, sketchbooks, photographs and letters to the museum.
