Presented by Gagosian, These paintings are of themselves, was an exhibition of ten new paintings and nine new works on paper by Brice Marden. This book showcases the works from Marden’s first exhibition at the museum in Chelsea. 

His collection comprised eight paintings, some of which were initiated as early as 2013, and were completed in 2021. The catalog includes full-color illustrations of each work, as well as details of works and installation views documenting the exhibition.

These paintings symbolize the daily and seasonal transformations in natural light and color that Marden is inspired by when working in his upstate New York studio. Portraits of the artist in his studio were taken by the artist’s daughter, Mirabelle Marden, and are accompanied by images of works in progress.
